Design and renovation of an apartment in the “Italian Quarter”

The overall impressions are positive; we like the design execution itself, because we were worried about that. In our case, everything matches/corresponds (to our expectations).

Project Description

ENTRANCE HALL

The design of the entrance hall is dominated by light colours, which, together with thoughtful lighting, help compensate for the lack of natural light and visually make the space more spacious. In addition to a capacious floor-to-ceiling wardrobe, the area of 12.93m² provides space for bicycle storage. To the left of the apartment entrance, we suggested placing hooks for outerwear and visually highlighting the wall using relief panels. To make the process of getting ready more comfortable, we added a small bench with a compartment for shoes.

KITCHEN-LIVING ROOM

In the kitchen-living room, whose area after re-planning became 32.38m², we organized several different functional zones: for cooking and dining, for relaxation, work, and creativity. We used several techniques for space zoning:

  • different floor coverings in the kitchen and living room areas;
  • a TV console on the border between the dining area and the relaxation area;
  • zoning using colour – an accent wall visually highlights the place for work and creativity;
  • different lighting scenarios – in addition to the main light, we used local lighting in the form of a chandelier over the sofa and pendant lamps above the dining table.

CHILDREN'S ROOM

The interior of the children's room, covering an area of 16.42m², turned out to be very cosy. For its design, we chose a cheerful combination of pink and yellow, which radiates positive emotions. At the same time, the children's room is not only aesthetic but also functional, where we organized:

  • a sleeping area, where a house-bed is located;
  • a zone for games and active exercises, where we placed a Swedish wall with a horizontal bar and a rope ladder, and a climbing wall;
  • a zone for studying and creativity, featuring a desk and chair, a house-shaped shelving unit, and a chalk board.

BEDROOM

The interior of the bedroom, with an area of 19.35m², turned out to be more restrained. An abundance of colours in such a room would interfere with comfortable sleep, so we focused on the brevity of Minimalism. The monochrome interior was diluted with several bright accents – a painting at the headboard, textiles, and an armchair.

Part of the bedroom is dedicated to a working area, which, in addition to a desk and chair, is complemented by a bookshelf and a couple of shelves. Storage is handled by a wardrobe with a floor-to-ceiling mezzanine, as well as a chest of drawers with simple facades.

BATHROOM AND TOILET (W.C.)

The bathroom, covering 3.46m², and the toilet room (2.95m²) are made in a single style. Their interior is laconic and functional, free of unnecessary details. Due to the small area of the rooms, only the minimally necessary elements were used. In the bathroom, this includes a bathtub with a glass screen, a wall-mounted vanity unit with a sink, a narrow cabinet with closed smooth facades, a lighted mirror, and a heated towel rail. In the toilet room, we placed a wall-hung toilet with an installation system, a cabinet with space for a washing machine and dryer, and a compact vanity unit with a sink and a mirror. The boiler will be hidden behind the laminated chipboard (LSDP) panels.

COLOUR PALETTE

The main colours in the interior are LAZUR 60 from the Caparol 3D-System Plus colour collection and VENATO 60, which serve as an excellent base for using brighter inclusions, and these colours harmoniously combine with the wood texture. As accents in the wall decoration, the studio team proposed using the green shade JADE 80 and the pink colour named FLAMENCO 145.

FINISHING MATERIALS

  • Ceiling. The project involves the use of a universal ceiling covering that harmoniously fits into almost any interior style – a matte stretch ceiling. Also, in the bedroom, children's room, and living room, a shadow profile was provided for the installation of LED backlighting.
  • Walls. In the wall decoration, it was proposed to use non-textured non-woven wallpaper, paint, chipboard panels with slats, and laminated chipboard (LSDP) panels. For the kitchen backsplash, ABK PLAY 0005894 PLAY DROPS MULTIWHITE NAT tile was chosen, and for the walls in the toilet room and bathroom – a combination of two types of porcelain stoneware: GPTU 605 Grey RECT Cersanit and Dreaming White Cersanit.
  • Floor. We used several types of materials for the floor covering. In the bedroom, children's room, and living room, this is the pleasant-to-the-touch laminate Kronopol Parfe Floor 4V; in the entrance hall – IVC Moduleo Transform PVC vinyl tile; in the kitchen area – Berry Alloc Spirit Home 30 GLUE vinyl. Dreaming White Cersanit porcelain stoneware tile was chosen for the bathroom and toilet room.

LIGHTING

In this design project, we used different types of lighting fixtures, an approach that solves several problems simultaneously. Firstly, uniform illumination of all corners of the rooms is ensured. Secondly, we use some types of lamps for visual space zoning. Moreover, with well-thought-out lighting, the interior looks even more aesthetic, and some models of lighting fixtures additionally serve as a decorative element.

List of lighting fixtures used in the project:

  • Maytoni spotlights: ZOOM for the entrance hall, bathroom, and toilet room, 17530 for the kitchen-living room, 17505 for the bedroom;
  • NOWODVORSKI 66486 spotlights for the children's room;
  • Skarlat RWLB098 wall models for local lighting in the entrance hall;
  • Eglo 92357 Petto pendant lamps for local lighting of the dining area;
  • MAYTONI 27260 chandelier for lighting the relaxation area in the kitchen-living room;
  • TK LIGHTING 12147 wall sconce for lighting the area at the head of the bed in the bedroom.

Considering the clients' wishes, we also did not forget about built-in LED backlighting with a colour temperature of 4000K.

STORAGE SYSTEMS

The apartment has quite high ceilings, about 3 m. To use the available space with maximum benefit, it was proposed to use custom-made storage systems, in particular cabinets with mezzanine sections up to the ceiling. Thanks to the laconic design and predominantly light colours, the storage systems do not seem too massive and do not visually overload the space.

In this design project, we managed to fulfill the clients' wishes by creating a functional and cosy interior with bright inclusions. Our cooperation did not end with the project development, as BORISSTUDIO specialists also handled its implementation, completing the turn-key renovation. You can find out what the final result was in our photo and video review in the "Renovation" section.
